One of the main expressions of regal power development in the late Middle Ages are the royal ceremonies, instrument of political communication of monarchies and example of the relationship between power and ceremonial. The renewal of the political history and new trends in studies on diplomacy have explored the importance of ceremonials for the regal power and the understanding of diplomatic practices of the period. Taking the Portuguese case as an example, there are several travel narratives related to weddings and embassies that contribute to the identification of practices of reception and diplomatic negotiation, as well as to the problematization of courtiers aspects that characterize diplomacy and ambassadors of the period. In addition, we seek to demonstrate that narrative comparison allows to highlight both the new contours of spectacle that royalty ceremonies were gaining throughout the 15th century, as the regal power concern with foreign policy propaganda.
