La théologie politique isidorienne

Isidore, archbishop of Seville, lived in the Visigothic kingdom of Toledo during the so-called Late Antiquity or transition period between Antiquity and the Middle Ages. The institutional instability and eschatological perspectives of the times left deep marks on his conception on the functions of government and social order. Political power must become instrumental in organizing society, repressing sin, protecting the Church, promoting its worldview and maintaining the stability of the realm in the perspective of the millenium.
