This article aims to analyze the relations between notions of authority, sanctity and charity as it took place in Provence during the 5th century. To write this study, we take for granted some writings produced by monk-bishops of Lérins’ Abbey. These texts allow us to propose hypotheses about the importance of the Abbey in general, but also about the importance of making alliances and proclamating the sanctity of their monks and their monastery: it seems possible to consider those two elements in the center of episcopal’s authority.
